What is Mad, Crazy Love?

There are mad, crazy love bumper stickers all over. People are saying “mad, crazy love” in schools, offices, and at the end of telephone calls. But what is “mad, crazy love”?

Mad, crazy love is the care and concern you have for people that look, behave, believe, and act differently than you.

Mad, crazy love is the kind word spoken to the person who is slandering your name.

Mad, crazy love is giving your best to serve those on the margins of society when they could never pay you back.

Mad, crazy love is the word of hope and encouragement that one offers to the lost, hurt and downtrodden.

Mad, crazy love is the unconditional love of Christ that is offered to a world that loves conditionally.

Mad, crazy love is the smile and polite word that is shared with the person who is disrespectful to you.

Mad, crazy love are these things and many more. At Greater Heights UMC we began to use “mad, crazy love” to describe the unconditional love of Christ without judgment, guilt, or shame. But what is more important to us than the definition is how it is lived out.

It is our prayer and heart’s desire that all might not only know this mad, crazy love of Christ, but also that those who do know Christ might share and live in that same love with the world.
